The Village De La Paix in Kigali

It's situated in the outskirts of Rwanda's capital Kigali and gives home to around 100 orphans. 12 – 14 live in 7 well-built houses and are cared for by "mamans", their substitute mothers.

There is a nursery and a sports ground and in 2005 a community house where everybody can meet for different social events was inaugurated. This particular house is moreover a source of income for the "Village de la Paix" as it can be let for occasions as weddings, conferences etc. This community house was entirely financed by the "Simi" foundation.

The first 6 houses, inaugurated in April 2002 (2003?), have been financed by the German non-profit organisation "Kinder brauchen Frieden" (Children need peace). This charity is generously supporting "Village de la Paix" continously and is – among other things – in charge of the upkeeping of all children in the 6 houses they constructed.

The “Mamans” of the Village:
Widows, who have often lost their hole families during the massacres or escaping. They live together with the children and accomplish true miracles: with the power of their love, they give the children back their smiles.
